Discover Thailand: Wat Phra Kaeo
The construction of this temple started in 1782 when the capital was moved to Bangkok. It was completed in 1784. Because the Buddha housed in the temple is made of jade, which is a color similar to the emerald, it was named “the Emerald Temple” ("emerald" in Thai means deep green color and not the specific stone). Not only foreign travelers but also people from all over Thailand come every day in order to visit this temple.
